Why it belongs in a home tiki bar

The radio hospitality layer under the fantasy records. Tourists heard this before they bought a Denny LP.

History

Capitol released Hawaii Calls: Greatest Hits in 1960 (T-1339 mono / later stereo reissues), drawn from the long-running Hawaii Calls radio program hosted by Webley Edwards with musical direction tied to Al Kealoha Perry. The show broadcast from Waikiki and shipped Hawaiian standards to mainland living rooms for decades.

The LP packages hotel-circuit favorites — “Blue Hawaii,” “The Hukilau Song,” “Hawaiian War Chant,” “Aloha Oe” — in the polished hapa-haole style tourists heard on the beach and on shortwave. It is not Shell Bar bird-call exotica; it is the hospitality playlist the radio show sold as “Hawaii.”

A home tiki bar that only spins Denny never hears that radio layer. This compilation is the cleanest physical entry point: one Capitol program, familiar titles, and the Edwards/Perry credit collectors still search under.
