Eden's Island

Del-Fi released Eden’s Island (The Music of an Enchanted Isle) in 1960 — Ahbez’s only full-length. He had already written Nat King Cole’s 1948 hit “Nature Boy,” lived outdoors around Hollywood, and treated vegetarianism, long hair, and sandals as daily practice rather than a stage bit.

The LP sits in the exotica fad — wood flute, bongos, vibes, boat creaks — then adds Ahbez’s spoken pieces about coves and paradise, plus thin sung passages. AllMusic and later reissue notes treat it as Denny-style charts married to beatnik poetry, not a Shell Bar dance set.

It never matched Denny or Baxter commercially. Space-age pop collectors revived it in the 1990s, and Del-Fi / Collectors’ Choice CD reissues kept the cult disc in print. Use it when the night needs a weirder, thinner detour than another bird-call chart.
